On Thursday, 20th December, 1984 a fully loaded tanker train became derailed in the depths of the famous SUMMIT TUNNEL BETWEEN Littleborough and Todmorden. The fire that followed, featuring almost volcanic effects, attracted world media attention and put the route out of service.
