About this title

On Thursday, 20th December, 1984 a fully loaded tanker train became derailed in the depths of the famous SUMMIT TUNNEL BETWEEN Littleborough and Todmorden. The fire that followed, featuring almost volcanic effects, attracted world media attention and put the route out of service. This video, including dramatic TV, Newsreel and exclusive West Yorkshire Fire Service footage, shows how BALVIC WHITLEY MORAN Ltd. Undertook to reinstate this vital link in the BR Network. The film deals technically with the civil engineering challenge of the project and concludes with the charity walk that took place through the tunnel's length. Balvac Whitley Moran Ltd.
