Three Narrow Gauge lines in Saxony
Steam Lives On

About this title

The three lines featured in this film were part of the once extensive 750mm gauge system in eastern Germany.

Today they are tourist orientated using appropriate motive power and rolling stock.

In March 2018 a five day photo charter visited with an emphasis on re-creating typical freight trains including the use of roll wagons whereby standard gauge stock were carried in piggy back fashion.

On the Dollnitzbahn we see a Meyer designed compound with two freight consists. The Fichtelbergbahn uses large 2-10-2 tank locomotives and we see two of the fleet on both freight and scheduled passenger trains. The Pressnitzalbahn provided two freights with six coupled and a ten coupled locomotives. The charter was arranged by Richard Newton and Andre Sinn.
