For quite a few years now,
trans-Atlantic air lines have vied with each other to offer
bargain fares to the USA. So why not join the TeleRail team

the pond'? As you will discover the American railroad scene
is as spectacular as it is varied, and makes an ideal
country to saviour all types of railway action in. To give
you some idea of the wide variety of traffics and possible
locations this superbly photographed video looks at the
following specially selected topics and areas:-
Sand Patch on the CSX mainline from
Pittsburgh, where heavy freight trains take the grade
through spectacular autumn scenery in the mountainous
northern Alleghenies.
The Maryland Midland a comparatively
short private line through the superb rural scenery around
Union Bridge, Maryland - also featuring street running.
Contrasting commuter traffic including
San Jose, Chicago, and the Brunswick to Washington services.
Horseshoe Curve near Altoona and the
spectacular route through the mountains to Cresson.
West Brownsville where Conrail run
regular huge daily coal trains right along the entire length
of Main Street.
Main line steam featuring Norfolk
& Western Class 'J' 4-8-4 No. 611 at work near
Christianburgh West Virginia. Also Ex-Nickel Plate Road
2-8-4 No. 765 en route to Hinton. As well as Two ex Canadian
Pacific 4-6-2s (Class G5) double heading from
Charlottesville. Plus Shay, Heisler, and Climax geared locos
at work on the preserved Cass Scenic line.
New York Hoboken and Grand Central
Stations are contrasted, before we examine Amtrak services
nationwide.
The Norfolk & Southern Pochahontas
division provides some stunning locations for coal traffic.
At Chicago freight is seen being hump
shunted and marshalled, and on the move (including double
stacks) around this busy city.
At Dallas the busy Santa Fe junction
contrasts with switching operations at the local Santa Fe
yard.
The Rocky Mountains in deep snow
provide a spectacular backdrop for heavy coal trains from
Denver.
In California Southern Pacific and
Santa Fe traffic is contrasted at Cajon one of the most
famous locations in the West.
In all it's an unsurpassed feast of
American railroad action, and a superb overview of this
exciting country.
