The Austrian railway network is comprised of a highly integrated system utilizing both standard and narrow gauge operations.  This programme takes a comprehensive look at rail action throughout Austria including many superb winter snow scenes in the Alps, as well as visiting some of the lesser known areas in the East.  Both local, express, and international passenger services and standard gauge freight are featured.  Also shown are the considerable amounts of narrow gauge freight which still survive against all odds in 1995 conveyed by both transporter wagons and narrow gauge wagons.  Topics include:- 

Vienna and Salzburg. 

Narrow gauge steam from Gménd, main line traffic from Zell am See to Wõrgl, the steam rack railway from Schneeberg, and cross border standard gauge freight to Hungary.  Also passenger motor traffic through the Alps to Badgastein. 

The rolling road freight and passenger operations over the scenic Brenner pass.  Narrow gauge freight from Jenbach to Fugen on the scenic Zillertaler bahn.  Narrow gauge operations on the scenic electrified network from St. Põlten.  The superb but threatened Ybbstalbahn system including both passenger and freight.  Freight and passenger action on the line from Zell am See to Krimml.  Also main line traffic along the corridor from Vienna to Innsbruck and on into Switzerland, as well as some main line steam.  Loco Classes:-  Electric 1010, 1040, 1041, 1042, 1043, 1044, 1245.  Diesel 2043, 2048, 2067.  Narrow Gauge 1099, 2095, + Steam 099, 399, 999, Hungarian V43, M44, Czech 754, Italian 552.
